„Tanzflächen der Wiedervereinigung“ is a multimedia exhibition exploring the role of club culture in Berlin and East Germany after 1989 as part of a broader societal transformation. From October 3 to November 9, 2026, the project will make club culture tangible as a space of encounter, freedom and democratic negotiation at a still undisclosed iconic location in Berlin.
Drawing on archival materials, oral histories and artistic contributions, the exhibition examines how clubs, raves and self organized spaces became sites where new forms of community, cultural practice and participation emerged after the fall of the Berlin Wall. The project consciously focuses on East German voices, previously underrepresented perspectives, as well as the contradictions, conflicts and exclusions within these developments.
In the lead up to the exhibition, individuals, witnesses and protagonists of the time, collectives, artists and initiatives are invited to contribute memories, materials and stories from the period of reunification through an open call. In this way, a collective and multi voiced archive of club culture as part of democracy history will emerge.
The project is initiated and realized by Clubcommission Berlin e.V in the year of its 25th anniversary.
The exhibition is developed in cooperation with Diskobabel e.V. and in collaboration with Archiv der Jugendkulturen e.V. and Office ParkScheerbarth
